Plated Soul by Aunt Vonda was born from the legacy of Aunt Vonda’s Kitchen Table — a beloved, family-owned restaurant built on love, resilience, and a commitment to serving soulful, made-from-scratch meals. What began as a neighborhood gem in Newark, Delaware, has evolved into an elevated dining experience where tradition, hospitality, and innovation meet on every plate.

As a Black family-owned business, we take pride in carrying forward the spirit of our ancestors — blending the warmth of Southern hospitality with the creativity of modern cuisine. Our menu is inspired by generational family recipes that were never written down but passed through stories, laughter, and the shared joy of gathering around the table.

At the heart of Plated Soul is our family. Founder Vonda L. Benson, whose culinary passion and vision started it all, continues to lead with love and purpose. Her husband, Acey Barnes, oversees operations, ensuring that every aspect of the business runs smoothly — from the kitchen to the guest experience. Their son, Jurrel Carthon, serves as General Manager, leading the front-of-house with excellence, grace, and a deep understanding of what true service means. Together, they embody strength, unity, and soul — values that flow through every plate served and every guest welcomed.
